A CONVERSATION TO CONTINUE AT HOME
Start with something your child enjoys. Explore a way to share it, and a way for you to join in.
If your therapist shared this page, use their guidance to choose a prompt. Keep the conversation comfortable and follow your child’s pace.
Two people are together in a kitchen. One talks about soccer while the other has little opportunity to join in. Explore how both people could take part. The question and answer buttons shown are part of the recording.
WATCH TOGETHER, THEN WONDER
There is no need to turn the moment into a test. Watch, replay, or stop whenever your child wants.
Invite your child to share in their preferred way: speech, AAC, gestures, or another form of communication.
KEEP IT SIMPLE
A favorite topic, activity, or object is a place to begin. Join with curiosity.
“I have something to share, too. How can we let each other know when we want a turn?”
“Would you like to try something different?” Allow time, breaks, and the choice to pass.
Adapt these ideas with your child’s therapist. Eye contact is not required for participation.
SocialCue is available for iPhone and iPad. Half of each section is free, with a one-time purchase to unlock the full library.
